A Storybook Session with Avery and Pokey
Some sessions feel like they’ve been pulled straight from the pages of a storybook — and this one with Avery and her spotted horse, Pokey, was just that.
We met up on a warm summer evening, right as the golden light began to spill across the field. The pond nearby was calm and quiet, scattered with lily pads that caught the last bit of sunlight and shimmered like tiny mirrors across the surface. It felt peaceful, almost enchanted.
Avery has a few horses, but she chose Pokey for this session. And honestly, what a perfect choice. The red tones in her coat popped beautifully against the green of the summer grass and the soft greens of the lily pads. Knowing Pokey’s bold, eye-catching pattern would be the star of the show, Avery wore a light blue flowy dress that draped gently over Pokey’s back. The two of them together looked like something out of a dream.
As they made their way into the pond, I had to pause for a second — the scene was breathtaking. The sun was setting behind them, glistening gold across the water. Pokey’s striking markings, the gentle ripples and the soft movement of the dress… it all came together like a painting.
Avery rode through the water with such ease. You could see the trust and connection between them in every movement. Every frame I captured told a piece of their story — quiet, strong, full of heart and harmony.
These are the sessions I live for. When the light is just right and the bond between horse and rider shines through, and nature shows up too — like it knows something magical is happening.
Thank you, Avery and Pokey, for letting me capture your little piece of storybook magic.
